The Travel Almanac explores the topics of traveling and temporary habitation from the personal perspectives of innovative figures in the fashion, music, art, and film worlds. Addressing an increasingly mobilized creative community, it is the first publication of its kind to speak to this sophisticated generation of travelers. The plurality of this community inspires the magazine to focus on individual’s personal experiences and the effects of travel on their lives and work.

In this issue, acclaimed artist and former fashion designer Helmut Lang shares some of his first memories of traveling as a young adult in Austria, and in addition presents visual material from his “Selective Memory Series.” Actress and rock-singer Juliette Lewis discusses the difficulties and thrills of shifting between life as a Hollywood starlet and worldwide touring musician. Supermodel Alek Wek reminisces about the beginnings of her fashion career up to her recent travels through Africa. Bernard Sumner, founding member of the legendary British band Joy Division and singer of New Order, shares with us some of his early memories from the road as well as his more recent excursions sailing across the ocean. German fashion designer Bernhard Willhelm takes us to Mexico, where he gives us a private tour of his temporary atelier. And finally, we speak with our cover-star, songwriter and actor Will Oldham, better known as Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. He recalls for us his first feelings of foreignness, makes a case for the charms of the Hawaiian Island Oahu, wonders about the limits of communication, and discusses a style of touring that’s structured more like a song. Oldham was also kind enough to open his personal photo archive and share a selection of travel images with us.

With a subtle geographical focus on the USA, this issue also adds entertaining new sections like “Psychological Sightseeing”, an analysis of select hotel bars and their patrons in Manhattan. In addition, the issue presents “Off-Season,” an image-rich feature of the picturesque northwestern state of Montana.
