Third Drawer Down launches new Art Multiples series – 17.04.2010
Third Drawer Down Art Multiples, a collection of four covetable functional art products
developed by Third Drawer Down, launches in April 2010. Launching internationally
the Art Multiples collection was created in collaboration with four renowned artists.
1 = RUOK - Rose Nolan (Australia)
2 = Rubiks Sea - Claire Fontaine (France)
3 = I Forgive You – Douglas Gordon (Scotland) in collaboration with New Museum, New
York
4 = Art History – Vuk Vidor (Belgrade)
Third Drawer Down aims to explore the multiple reaching beyond the high art audience
by making art more accessible and affordable whilst supporting the role of art within
the everyday. Art Multiples were originally perceived as an art form that would sell,
and consequently find their way into the homes of many instead of just a few select
galleries. They were also considered by many artists to be an art form that allowed for
experimentation.
The Art Multiples collection from third Drawer Down provides opportunity for art lovers
and collectors to enjoy the idea behind an art object, without having to visit a gallery
or purchase the original work. All Third Drawer Down art multiples are designed by artists
whereby the object has purpose by embracing form and function, thus taking the
concept of the art multiple into a space of the everyday….. – candle/scarf/baby
suit/rubiks cube.
Celebrated artists and supporting bodies such as the New Museum, Tate and
Whitechapel Gallery encourage multiples as a way for numerous people to enjoy works
of art, ensuring that the talent of today’s artists will be known to many and continue to
be of interest to future generations.
